If you’d like to have some a great time in Frederick this weekend, you can get in on “Scavenging for Kindness” a local kindness-based week of promoting laughter, kindness, and a whole lot of love by supporting Frederick County, Maryland cafĂ©’s, restaurants and coffee shops! If you’re in out and about in downtown, just look for the outdoor boards as you stroll for“kindness or love-based” specials. Hootch and Banter has one, but you'll have to stop in and ask them what they have on tap for Scavenging for Kindness. If you’re heading east or west out of town for the pumpkin patches, stop in at The Main Cup in Middletown for a “Bee Kind—Honey Cortado Latte” or The Buzz Cafe in Monrovia for a maple and pecan “Latte Love”, both named in honor of Scavenging for Kindness. Not only will you be supporting our small businesses, but you’ll also get to enjoy an amazing treat as you enjoy the amazing fall weekend ahead!
What is Scavenging for Kindness anyway? It was started in 2016 by a high school student in Middletown, Maryland to raise money for charity while engaging people from all walks of life. This year it is being brought to you by a young teacher in honor of her mother, a Middletown local named Tammy Pilarcik, who participated in the 2016 games and loved all it stood for. All proceeds will be given to the new 24/7 Prayer Room in Frederick, another place you should head to this weekend if you’re looking for something engaging and safe to do. The new prayer room (located at East 4th Street) is open daily from 8:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and is free to all. A meditation room of sorts, it pulls you in as soon as you arrive with engaging activity stations to help you reset and focus on what’s important in life, both in Frederick County and outside of it.
Teams will be competing around town for a shot at winning this “kindness based” Scavenger Hunt, so be sure to root on those in silly costumes, creating kind tasks and “paying it forward” or just jump in and participate. Because really, kindness doesn’t need a team or a reason. We’re glad you’re here. Stay safe and we will see you this weekend!
